Al Seef
We start our Dubai Heritage tour by visiting the Al Seef district. This purpose-built tourist destination spans almost 2km along the Dubai Creek, which once was the vibrant entryway to the Gulf’s most successful pearl diving port. Al Seef was recently constructed to make it look like an Arabian 1950s-style souk giving visitors a glimpse into the past cultures of the UAE and reflecting back to historical Dubai. There are many incredibly Instagrammable spots that we’ll cover here as we walk through its charming sikkas, or alleyways, encountering wind towers and sandstone buildings along this old-world district.
2
Al Fahidi

Connected to Al Seef is the Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood of Bur Dubai. Still fondly referred to by some as “Al Bastakiya,” its old name, this is one of Dubai’s oldest heritage site, pre-dating the union of the Emirati tribes in 1971 with much of the original infrastructure preserved and intact. We’ll meander through its winding, narrow alleyways and maze-like quarters while being surrounded by ochre-coloured buildings made of palm wood, coral, mud or gypsum. More great content will be captured here with backgrounds of traditional wind towers, art installations, mosques and architectural effects

3
Textile Souk
Our walk continues alongside the Dubai Creek to the Textile Souk which is part of the historic Bur Dubai neighbourhood. There are myriads of stores here selling an array of silk, cotton, and embroidered fabrics from around the world with plenty of haggling happening all around. Hidden somewhere between all the textile merchants is a beautifully decorated lantern shop which is an absolute gem in this area. You’ll step in and will be surrounded by hundreds of illuminated lanterns of all colors and sizes, which will make for some wonderful content for the gram.
4
Dubai Creek
From the Old Souk, we’ll jump on a wooden abra, or ‘water taxi’, to cross to the other side of the Dubai Creek. This bustling waterway has been the lifeblood of the city for generations. We’ll have the chance to see large wooden merchant ships known as dhows docked along the banks, loaded with goods from nearby countries. We’ll also admire spectacular views of both old and new Dubai including traditional houses, towers and minarets. The crossing only takes about five minutes which we’ll make full use of and we’ll also have the chance to take more photos and videos on our return ride.
5
Gold Souk

Our last stop on the itinerary is the famous Gold Souk located on the Deira side of the creek. This is one of the oldest traditional markets in the emirate with some fascinating window displays from glittering jewelry stores. Aside to the marketplace which we’ll walk through, there are also some interesting wall murals along the way which we’ll be stopping at before we wrap up and make our return back to where we started our day’s journey.
